The Australian Medical Council (AMC) National Framework for Prevocational Medical Training is being implemented nationally from 2024 for PGY1 and PGY2 in 2025. The South Australian Medical Education and Training (SA MET) Health Advisory Council and the SA MET Accreditation Committee have revised the PGY1 Term Description Template to align with the term requirements stipulated within the AMC’s Training Environment – Requirements for prevocational training programs and terms.

Clinical Experiences
From 2024, accredited intern posts will transition from being a core medicine/emergency/surgical or non-core term to being identified across 1 or 2 clinical patient care experiences (see below). This change will align South Australia’s accredited intern posts with the revised AMC National Framework for Prevocational Medical Training and the pending revisions to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency’s ‘Registration Standard for Granting General Registration as a medical practitioner to Australian or New Zealand medical graduates on completion of intern training’.
