Your CV may be used for two reasons:

1. If you are made a provisional offer to a Metro LHN, they will use your CV to get to know you.
   Your CV will not impact your chances of receiving a provisional offer to a Metro LHN.
2. If you are applying for the Rural Intern Pathway: your CV may be used by the Rural LHNs, in conjunction with your answers to the “Why Rural” questions, during selection as it’s a merit based process. For more information on the Rural Intern Pathway, see the Guideline.

You are not required to upload a cover letter as part of your application. 

If you choose to provide one you can combine the document withy your CV and upload them together. Including a cover letter will not impact your chances of receiving a provisional offer. 

Only applicants graduating from an Australian Medical School in 2026 will need to provide an MIPN in their application. This will be provided by your university and is required for the National Audit.
All other applicants – including IMGs – enter “N/A” in the application form when prompted.

The Intern Placement Number is a unique nine-digit number which has been generated by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) and has been provided to medical schools for distribution to all 2026 final year medical students (in Australia).

If you do not have an Intern Placement Number issued or you have misplaced it, you must contact your medical school to have the number issued or reissued. Do not contact Ahpra.

Note: The Intern Placement Number is not your University Student Identification Number.

Yes. As long as the Name, Date of Birth, and Passport (or other travel document) country fields are consistent with your new passport, we can use the details on the IMMI Grant Notification paperwork to carry out checks using VEVO.

If your new passport was granted by a country different to the country listed against Passport (or other travel document) country on your IMMI Grant Notification, please ensure you provide a copy of your current and previous passports. You can combine the two images into one file to upload them. We may contact you for further information if required.

If your name has changed, please ensure you upload evidence in the corresponding field.

To apply for Provisional Registration with the Medical Board of Australia, administered by Ahpra, you’ll need to demonstrate you meet the Registration Standard: English language Skills (ELSR). Ahpra provides 4 pathways to meet the ELSR.

To apply for internship in South Australia through the Centralised Process, you will be required to select which pathway you will meet, and provide evidence. 

Use the  pathway selection tool on Ahpra’s website to find your pathway. Then prepare the following information based on your pathway.

• Combined pathway: a Table of Education, this will be used in conjunction with your academic transcript as evidence.
• Advanced education pathway:
  • If you’re completing or have completed a 6 year medical degree (in a recognised country – your transcript from that degree is sufficient evidence.
  • If you’re completing or have completed a medical degree that is less than 6 years (in a recognised country), upload your transcript or diploma from your non-medical degree UNIVERSITY education or  a Table of Education.
    SA MET understands that you may not meet the six years in total of education requirements for the Advanced Education Pathway until you finish your degree.  
• School education pathway: a Table of Education
• Test pathway: evidence that you have passed an authorised English language test. You must have already passed at time of application to be eligible to apply. If you have not ALREADY PASSED a recognised test, you will be deemed ineligible through the Centralised Process.

Ahpra may require different information when you apply for provisional registration. It’s your responsibility to ensure you’re prepared to register.

Separate to the Centralised Process, Local Health Networks also advertise positions through the year on the SA Health Careers website. Recruitment outside the Centralised Process is not subject to the same eligibility criteria.

No. Sunrise EMR and PAS training is no longer a requirement to apply through the Centralised Process.
If you’re made a provisional offer, your employing LHN will provide any required training.

South Australia takes part in the National Audit of Intern Acceptances and Unplaced Applicants, which identifies applicants who are holding multiple intern acceptances across Australia. Applicants who have accepted more than one intern position will be contacted by the National Audit Data Manager. These applicants are then asked to withdraw from all intern positions, except the one that they intend to undertake for their intern year.
