What should employees expect from the role?
The Modbury ENT surgery service position consists of 12 months of full-time clinical work.

There are very good opportunities for the service registrars to be exposed to a wide range of ORLHNS surgical procedures including general ENT procedures, otology, facial plastics, rhinology, and some head and neck procedures.

The ENT surgery service position at Modbury Hospital is designed for a trainee who has a strong interest in ENT and/or who has a strong interest in pursuing the career of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery.

The applicants must have sound basic knowledge and clinical skills in ENT as a prerequisite requirement for the Expression of Interest. The Modbury ENT service registrar is responsible for clinical care of ENT inpatients (including ward rounds, administrative work, consults), outpatients’ clinic, operating under supervision, ENT consults on the ward and at ED, after hours on-call, teaching and research, annual temporal bone course and research.

What are the key outcomes of the program?
By the end of 12 months employment, the trainee will have excellent exposure and training in general ENT, otology, facial plastics, and rhinology.

If I want to stay on for an extra year, do I have to apply again?
This program involves a 12-month commitment and Expressions of Interest to the program are required for the following year.

What are the hours of work and overtime?
Generally, 8.00am to 5.00pm during the week; on-call after hours few nights a week.

What education is provided?
Clinical teaching by ENT consultants and Accredited Registrar.

How will supervision be provided? Will this vary from rotation to rotation?
Continuous supervision provided by the Accredited Registrar and consultants.

Will I spend time at other sites?
Currently the LMH ENT service registrar does share on-call (one in three days) with the Modbury ENT service registrar and Modbury SET trainee as part of the RAH / Modbury / LMH on -call system. However, the LMH service registrar is never rostered to attend any clinic or operating theatre at Modbury Hospital. The Modbury service registrar is also not rostered to complete any clinic or theatre list at LMH. Only the SET trainee at Modbury does an operating list at LMH once every 4 weeks.

Will the TMO supervise interns/others in their role?
The TMO is responsible for supervision of medical students.

What should employees expect from the role?
At the Lyell McEwin Hospital, the very busy Emergency Department, the growing size of the hospital in general and development of Oncology services impacts on the pattern of work performed.

All ages of patients are treated through paediatric to geriatric and all areas of ENT care is covered. This includes Otology, Rhinology and Laryngology in general. More specifically paediatric ear and airway disease, endoscopic sinus surgery with functional rhinoplasty, laryngology and airway surgery for sleep apnoea and endoscopic ear surgery for chronic inflammatory ear disease.

There is a large radiology department and dedicated audiology support on site, with speech and swallowing pathologists, dieticians and specialist trained nursing staff.

This is a full-time clinical work position in LM hospital.

What education is provided?
Support is given for attendance for continued professional development at courses locally and nationally, together with research and presentations to medical meetings. There is a planned program for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff and nursing staff within the hospital.

How will supervision be provided? Will this vary from rotation to rotation?
Continuous supervision is provided by the senior registrar and consultants.

Will I spend time at other sites?
The trainee would be part of the on-call service at Modbury Hospital and may need to attend ENT clinics and
operating lists at the Modbury Hospital.

Currently the LMH ENT service registrar shares on-call (one in three days) with the Modbury ENT service registrar and Modbury SET trainee as part of the RAH / Modbury / LMH on-call system. However, the LMH service registrar is never rostered to attend any clinic or operating theatre at Modbury Hospital. The Modbury service registrar is also not rostered to complete any clinic or theatre list at LMH. Only the SET trainee at Modbury completes an operating list with Dr Sheldon Chong at LMH once every 4 weeks.

Will the TMO supervise interns/others in their role?
The TMO is responsible for supervision of medical students.

Only PGY2 + with full medical registration with Ahpra and must be an Australian permanent resident or citizen.

Applicants must have had at least 2-3 months experience in ENT as an intern or resident in one of the ENT units in Australia or overseas.

The selection process will involve assessing your:

• Interview, as described below.
