About the Program

The Yorke and Northern Local Health Network, Rural Doctor Program (YNRDP) provides a broad range of unique clinical experiences in both hospital and primary care settings across the region. This opportunity is available for 1 PGY2+ doctor in 2027 who demonstrates genuine interest in a career in Rural Generalism with Advanced Skills in Obstetrics.

About The Rotations

The Rural Obstetrics and Paediatrics Rotation line provides a 12-month position with varied clinical experience across four different rotations with a focus on obstetrics. The year entails the following:

GP/OBSTETRICS: 3 month term based in Kadina and Wallaroo and supervised by Dr Anna Kearney. This term provides the opportunity to participate in the work of a rural GP Obstetrician as well as complete the ARANZCOG – Certificate of Women’s Health.

OBSTETRICS: 3- month term based in Port Pirie working alongside Obstetricians, Gynaecologists and experienced Midwives as part of an obstetric unit which also provides surgical care of gynaecology patients.

PAEDIATRIC EMERGENCY: 6-weeks spend at Women’s and Children’s Emergency and 6-weeks spent in Emergency at either Wallaroo or Port Pirie with a paediatric focus.

RURAL GENERALISM: 3 month term based in a small site of the doctor’s choosing (Crystal Brook, Clare or Jamestown). This term is spent working across both rural GP and small hospitals with RGs and GPOs.

To support the learning of this trainee, YNLHN will also provide the opportunity for the trainee to become certified in ALS2, NALS as well as provide opportunities to participate in relevant courses such as Rural Emergency Obstetric Training (ACRRM), OGET, Critically Ill Child Workshop, Implanon insertion training and more.

YNLHN will provide suitable accommodation across the course of this year and for the first two years of employment with YNLHN.
