About the Program
The Yorke and Northern Local Health Network, Rural Doctor Program (YNRDP) provides a broad range of unique clinical experiences in both hospital and primary care settings across the region. This opportunity is available for 1 PGY2+ doctor in 2027 who demonstrates genuine interest in a career in Rural Generalism with Advanced Skills in Anaesthetics.
About The Rotations
The Rural Anaesthetics and Critical Care Rotation line provides a 12-month position with varied clinical experience across three different rotations with a focus on anaesthetics. The year entails the following:
ANAESTHETICS: 6 months (2 x 3 month rotations) based in Port Pirie supervised by experienced Rural Generalist Anaesthetists. With additional opportunities to experience anaesthetic time in Wallaroo and Clare Hospitals.
EMERGENCY: 3 month term in Emergency at either Port Pirie or Wallaroo Hospital. This term can also become a paediatric term if the trainee is requiring paediatric experience with some time spend at Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
RURAL GENERALISM: 3 month term based in a small site of the doctor’s choosing (Crystal Brook, Clare or Jamestown). This term is spent working across both rural GP and small hospitals with RGs and RGAs.
To support the learning of this trainee, YNLHN will also provide the opportunity for the trainee to become certified in ALS2, NALS as well as provide opportunities to participate in courses such as BASIC ICU and Advanced Airway courses.
YNLHN will provide suitable accommodation across the course of this year and for the first two years of employment with YNLHN.
Anaesthetic RMOs are provided with opportunities to compile a log book of cases to demonstrate experience for an application for an ACGRA/Anaesthetic Advanced Skill training position. They are also supported to participate in research and quality improvement activities as part of their training year.
